CONSENSUS AS THE BASIS FOR CONVICTION. Strategic planning sessions often bog down because participants get stuck developing consensus on the basic facts. The Strategic Intelligence Group (SIG) brings clarity to your strategic planning by getting everyone on the same page. Here’s how the process works.

• Identify current and emerging trends (e.g., demographic, economic, technology) in your business environment. Fact-based information is collated from a variety of leading sources. Why do this? Defines the broad environment in which your organization operates as well as the factors driving potential future scenarios.
• Collect relevant information on your Market, Customers and Competition. Why do this? You exist to serve your market. What is more important than understanding their needs and knowing what your competition is doing to appeal to them?
• Aggregate fact-based information and market intelligence. Why do this? Separates fact-based from opinion-based information, and condenses intelligence from a variety of credible sources.
• Screen the report through the knowledge and experience of your leadership. This screening is key. Why do this? Gets your leadership on the same page before your strategic planning session or workshop.
• Present results of screening to participants at your planning session, workshop or forum. Why do this? Enriches the fact-based intelligence report by clearly identifying areas of consensus and divergence.
• Use the screened intelligence report as the foundation for your planning session. Why do this? Because the SIG process has already established consensus, you begin with everyone on the same page. Your planning process moves forward; your organization is able to plan with intent and act with conviction.
• Monitor and report trends in key indicators on a quarterly or annual basis, building a long-term information base. Why do this? Provide a forum for dialogue on future planning and timely response to emerging trends.
